NDPC Decries Shortage of Data Protection Officers in Nigeria.
The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) decries the dearth of Data Protection Officers in Nigeria calling for appropriate steps to address shortfall. Speaking with Journalists shortfall after the presentation of the Agency's 2025 Budget, the National Commissioner and the Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, Dr. Vincent Olatunji said Nigeria has less than ten thousand Data Protection Officers, hence, the low efforts on Data Privacy Drive.
Dr. Olatunji, who described the gap in human resource as a global issue, revealed that Nigeria has about five hundred thousand Data Controllers and Processors, that suppose to have Data Protection officer, but with few hands available. As a way addressing the shortfall, he said the Nigeria Data Protection Commission has come up with a training to domesticate certification of Processors for Data Privacy and Protection Experts.
He added that the target is to build the capacity of the people and have a pool of Fifty thousand Data Processor Experts in Nigeria. The Capacity Building Training according to him, has started with Five Hundred people in Abuja and Lagos adding that, efforts is ongoing to involve private sector in theĀ arrangement.
